Maxentius

Marcus Aurelius Valerius Maxentius, Roman Emperor, AD 306-312, son of Maximian. He was passed over in the division of the empire, following the abdication of his father and Diocletian in 305; but he seized Rome and was proclaimed emperor in 306. After the death of Galerius (311), Constantine the Great marched on Rome and defeated Maxentius at the Mulvian Bridge (312).
